|The objects of the University :
The Government of Baroda and its people had for a long time desired to have a reparate University of their own. The affiliation of all the institutions of higher education to a university situated far away was not conductive to the development of new courses of instruction suited to the need of the regionThe main object of establishing the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was, therefore to provide a distinct type of University a teaching and residential university which should have complete freedom in all academic matters and would be free to institute new branches of studies suited to the needs and aspirations of the region in particular and of the country in general.
His highness the Maharaja of Baroda is the chancellor of the University. The vice-chancellor is the principal executive and academic officer of the Univeristy and is to be assisted in his work by Pro-vice chancellor or a Rector. The senate is the supreme governing body and authority of the Univeristy and the syndicate, its executive authority. Other authorities is the counsel of Post-graduate studies and Research which has to deal with all matters of relating to instruction, training and research in the various subjects taught in the University besides the usual faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Technology, Law and Agriculture the University is authorized to institute new faculties of education and psychology, Home Science, Fine Arts and Social work.

Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) is a multipurpose river valley project constructed across the river Narmada to irrigate 17.92 lakh hectare annually in the state of Gujarat. The Narmada Main Canal (NMC) of the SSP is the largest irrigation lined canal in the world. The total length of NMC is 458 Km. Having a capacity of 1133 cumecs.
The concrete gravity dam, 1210 meters (3970 feet) in length and with a maximum height of 163 meters above the deepest foundation level, is constructed across river Narmada. The dam is the third highest concrete dam (163 Meters) in India, the first two being Bhakra (226 m) in Himachal Pradesh and Lakhwar (192 m) in Uttar Pradesh. In terms of the volume of concrete involved for gravity dams, this dam is ranked as the second largest in the world with an aggregate volume of 6.82 million cu. m.
For chute spillway Radial gates, 7 in number and size 60’ x 55’ are provided to negotiate the design flood. 10 number of temporary construction sluices, each of size 2.15 m x 2.75 m are provided in the body of the spillway of RL 18m. Another set of 4 permanent river sluices are provided at RL 53.0 m. The design of the dam allows for a horizontal seismic coefficient of 0.125g and it also covers an additional risk due to reservoir induced seism city. Most sophisticated seismological instruments for monitoring and evaluation of the stresses in the body of the dam are installated.
The Full Reservoir level (FRL) of the dam is fixed at RL 138.68 m (455 feet). The maximum water level is 140.21 (460 feet) while minimum draw down level is 25.91 m (85 feet). The gross storage capacity of the reservoir is 0.95 M.ha.m. while the live storage capacity is0.58 M ha.m. The reservoir occupies an area of 37,000 ha.
The submergence at Full Reservoir level is 37,690 ha. Which comprises 11,279 ha agricultural land, 13,542 ha. Forests and 12,869 ha. River and wasteland. In all 245 villages of the three states viz. 193 villages of MP, 33 villages of Maharashtra and 19 villages of Gujarat are affected.
