Profile of the Chaplain
Angela O'Brien, our full-time lay Chaplain at St Dominic's, works to create an environment where staff and students can flourish spiritually and emotionally. As a faith community, we believe that every dimension of the human person should be nourished.
Our Chaplain coordinates the liturgical life of the College to mark the important seasons in the Church's year, celebrate weekly Mass and the sacraments. Prayer is an important part of life at St Dominic's - there are opportunities to pray every morning and at various points throughout the academic year. Support is offered to all students on their faith journey through formal catechesis in preparation for receiving confirmation or informally through discussion groups on faith.
As a Catholic community we are passionate about social justice and provide students with an opportunity to explore some of the issues in this area. To that end, we take part in the annual Westminster pilgrimage to Lourdes, where our students and staff go to work with the assisted pilgrims in July. During Fair World Week our students volunteer with different charities and organisations with the aim of making a valuable contribution to society. The College promotes strongly the value of volunteering and charity work as a tangible commitment to the common good.
